Maria Karpman

Maria has 20 years of experience in building science, energy modeling, and software design. She participates on national panels such as RESNET Software Verification Committee, Energy Star™ Multifamily National Working Group, and LEED for Midrise Multifamily Working Group. She also led the development of Simulation Guidelines for LEED for Midrise Multifamily system, as well as major modeling-based incentive programs in New York and New Jersey. Maria developed the curriculum for and has conducted numerous trainings on building energy simulation attended by hundreds of professionals. She holds advanced degrees in engineering and computer science, and is certified by ASHRAE as a Building Energy Modeling Professional (BEMP). She has served as an NYU adjunct faculty member and is principal of Karpman Consulting.

Mike Karpman

Mike has over eight years of energy modeling experience using a variety of modeling tools, including eQUEST and EnergyPlus. From 2009 to 2011 he served as the co-chair of the IBPSA-NY energy modeling technical committee. Mike helped develop the curriculum for and has co presented dozens of eQUEST workshops. His background is in engineering and business, and he has served as an adjunct faculty member at New York University. Mike is Vice President of Karpman Consulting.

Nicholas Allen-Sandoz

Nick Allen-Sandoz is a licensed professional engineer in New York state with more than 10 years of experience in the field of energy engineering and sustainability. His experience includes an advanced proficiency in energy modeling and energy savings services. In September of 2012, he received his ASHRAE Building Energy Modeling Professional (BEMP) certificate.

Mr. Allen-Sandoz has developed numerous energy models, primarily using eQuest simulation software, for a variety of building types including healthcare, laboratories, schools, industrial, food service and preparation, sports complexes, sensitive storage facilities, data centers, hotels, office and multifamily residential. He has developed over 100 energy models for the NYSERDA New Construction Program (NCP), NYSERDA Multi-Family Performance Program (MPP), NYSERDA Energy Advisor, New Jersey’s Pay for Performance Program, ASHRAE Level II Audits, LEED Energy & Atmosphere Credits, NYC School Construction Authorities Green Schools Guide (SCA GSG) and the Connecticut’s High Performance Buildings Program. These energy models have also been used for demonstrating compliance with various energy codes and assisting engineering and architectural professionals throughout the design process.

In addition to his energy modeling experience, Mr. Allen-Sandoz has experience with MEP design, conducting full energy audit and retro-commissioning activities, and providing senior project management services.
