Training Description
The training focuses on ASHRAE Standard 90.1 2016 Section 11 Energy Cost Budget Method and Appendix G Performance Rating Method, which are the performance-based compliance options with 2020 Energy Conservation Construction Code of New York State for commercial buildings. It describes the energy modeling requirements for building envelopes, lighting, HVAC, service water heating, and miscellaneous other systems, highlighting similarities and differences between 90.1 Section 11 and Appendix G, and goes over 90.1 mandatory requirements that projects must meet. The training also covers the special rules for renovations, core and shell and tenant fit-out projects, and the requirements that are often overlooked or misunderstood such as the handling of renewable energy, combined heat and power (CHP), district heating and cooling systems, elevators, and commercial and industrial equipment. In addition, the training goes over the changes to ASHRAE Standard 90.1 Section 11 and Appendix G included in the 2020 New York Stretch Energy Code and the 2020 New York City Energy Conservation Code. The presentation segments are followed by live polls and interactive discussions.
Target Audience
Code officials, reviewers of modeling-based submittals for code compliance and beyond code programs, energy modelers, and members of design teams.
Prerequisites
Background in mechanical engineering, architectural engineering or architecture or similar fields.
Two years of experience in commercial or multifamily building design, operation, maintenance, energy code enforcement, or related fields, or equivalent education.
Learning Objectives
Articulate the energy modeling requirements of the ASHRAE 90.1 Appendix G Performance Rating Method and Section 11 Energy Cost Budget Method.
Name similarities and differences between the two compliance options.
Describe 90.1 mandatory requirements that projects must meet
Differentiate between design elements and systems that do and do not qualify for performance trade-offs.
Describe how to establish the configuration of the baseline and proposed design models for renovation, core and shell and tenant fit-out projects when following Section 11 and Appendix G.
Understand how to use energy modeling results to establish compliance.
List the documentation that must be submitted to code officials or beyond code program administrators
Name changes to 90.1 performance-based compliance adopted in 2020 NY Stretch Energy and 2020 NYC ECCC, including but not limited to the envelope backstop.
