Course 212: Review of the Modeling-based Submittals for ASHRAE 90.1 Section 11 and Appendix G
Training Description
This 3-hour training will target building officials and beyond-code program staff tasked with the approval of performance-based submittals, as well as energy modelers for performing internal quality control to reduce the number of review iterations. It will focus on the plan review stage of the submittal review process, building on the material covered in 102 training. The training will develop skills to identify the impactful building systems and components to help prioritize the review effort and perform the essential review steps such as confirming that building systems and components shown in the Compliance Form reflect design documents; validating that the configuration of the baseline (budget) design model is established correctly based on the applicable rules of ASHRAE 90.1 Section 12 or Appendix G; establishing that, based on the simulation reports, the baseline (budget) and proposed designs were modeled as described in the Compliance Form; and that the compliance outcome was established correctly based on the energy modeling results.
The training will include practical examples based upon real life projects to illustrate how to apply review strategies and steps described in the DOE/PNNL Submittal Review Manual, use simulation reports to review energy models, and to communicate review comments to modelers and design teams. The training will provide practical examples of how to effectively use the DOE/PNNL Compliance Form to perform submittal reviews and cover the additional considerations for projects following NY Stretch Energy 2025 and 2025 NYCECC.
Target Audience
Code officials, reviewers of modeling-based submittals for code compliance and beyond code programs, energy modelers.
Prerequisites
Background in mechanical engineering, architectural engineering or architecture and/or other building science related fields.
Two years of experience in commercial or multifamily building design, operation, maintenance, energy code enforcement, or related fields, or equivalent education.
Completion of 102 and 111 and/or 112: Performance-based Compliance with ASHRAE Standard 90.1 or equivalent work experience.
