Modeling 203: ASHRAE 90.1 Modeling for LEED v4, ENERGY STAR Multifamily High Rise, and Code Compliance

This sixteen hour (2 day) hands-on training develops the technical skills necessary for modeling commercial and multifamily buildings in eQUEST following the requirements of ASHRAE Standard 90.1 Appendix G as adopted by NYS ECCC 2016, ENERGY STAR Multifamily High-Rise Program, Enterprise Green Communities, LEED NC v4 Pilot Credit (former Energy and Atmosphere Credit 1 and Prerequisite 2), and various other programs for green buildings. Attendees work on a case study involving a mixed-use multifamily building. The training covers the new, high-impact requirements of 90.1 2016 Appendix G, their application to common designs, efficient work flow, productivity tips, model quality control and troubleshooting.
The training targets professionals with architectural and engineering backgrounds who would like to develop or enhance their energy modeling skills, get working knowledge of Standard 90.1 2016 Appendix G, improve their ability to review modeling-based submittals, or work with modelers more effectively on a team. The training also helps prepare for the ASHRAE Building Energy Modeling Professional (BEMP) certification.
Four years of experience in commercial building design, operation, maintenance, or related fields, or equivalent education. Familiarity with the ASHRAE Standard 90.1 and some experience with the building energy modeling. Please also refer to the Preparation section below.
Articulate fundamental concepts of ASHRAE Standard 90.1 Appendix G
Determine parameters of models that must be created following Appendix G modeling protocol
Analyze project data and convert available metrics into modeling inputs
Utilize the eQUEST Wizard to efficiently enter building parameters
Utilize the eQUEST Detailed Data Edit mode to refine the model inputs
Model differences between baseline and proposed designs using the eQUEST Parametric Runs tool
Perform basic troubleshooting and extract key results utilizing eQUEST reports
1) Attendees must have a laptop computer with eQUEST v 3.65 installed and working. eQUEST is free and can be downloaded here. You must have administrator privileges on your computer to install the software, thus we may not be able to help you do it at the training. Please contact us at least a week prior to the training if you need help installing eQUEST.
2) For remote attendees, the use of 2 monitors is highly encouraged to simulate the in-class experience. This will allow you to view the presenter's screen on one monitor, and use the second monitor to follow along with the exercises.
3) We recommend that you bring and use a mouse instead of using the laptop touchpad when working on the modeling exercise
4) We encourage attendees who are new to eQUEST to go over the eQUEST Introductory Tutorial prior to the training.
Continuing education credits are approved for: 14 AIA/CES Learning Units HSW/SD; 14 PDHs for PEs by proxy via AIA registration.
